Obama Threatens Reconciliation On Health Care Reform

A simple majority could pass most of the health care reform bill in the US Senate. That’s a procedure often referred to as reconciliation. President Obama today made a veiled threat to use that process should Republicans not come up with a way of covering more Americans for health care. The GOP proposal covers 3 million Americans. The current house/senate bills cover 30 million Americans. The President mentioned a month or several weeks as a time line. Distributed by Tubemogul.

  1. Let me get this straight…You’re claiming that Lincoln is in trouble because she wavered on voting for a public option, which is what her constituency wants? It’s not the fact that her state is one of the most conservative in the country?

You’re also claiming that a small left-leaning state like Nevada has a population that is representative of the entire country?

And by the way, the CBO deficit prediction is a complete and utter joke. There is no way that this will be deficit neutral….wow

  2. Obama should have started out strong and kept up his battle to escape the freaking private insurance companies. We were almost forced (and may still be forced) to buy crummy private insurance from companies who have contempt from us. How do I know? I worked for them! Kaiser, WellPoint, Blue Cross. I worked for them all. I sent out the letters dropping our customers, while my managers bragged about their bonuses made by dropping sick customers when they needed coverage most.

  3. And what year is this? 1795? Republicans for the most part are uneducated rich landowners?? Do they also adorn Cravats, Spatterdashes, and buckled shoes?

But I won’t refute that they are unruly gun-wielding truck drivers! No sir! Smokey and his gang of miscreants need to be armed to the hilt in order to save this country from Buford and the corrupt federal gov’ment!

Where’d you get that Ph.D from again?

  4. Yeah keep perpetuating partisanship throughout Washington politics! WOO! But just keep in mind that the pendulum will soon be swinging in the opposite direction…And with Reconciliation, which was originally designed to settle budget disputes, (wholly inappropriate for this bill) the Democrats still aren’t guaranteed a ratified bill. They have a LONG way to go in order to pass this thing. It’ll be another decade or two before this discussion arises again if this bill fails. Good luck…

  5. HAHAHA another guy with his Ph.D on here! Are those the mail-order degrees that you can purchase online? I want one! Hell how about an MBA as well?!

most of repub are uneducated rich landowners. They do not understand the meaning of reforms. They are aggressive gun owners and truck drivers. They like to bomb the whole world. Look at the repub Bushes. All they did is to fight with other countries ignoring the needs of american voters. Health reform is necessary. Go Obama go. I am a PhD, BTW and have a very good coverage

  7. WilliamHCarney says:

That is why, at the very least, the Democrats will still control the house. Obama will be re-elected so remember my username.

  8. theannapolisman says:

The American people spoke in Massachusetts when they elected Scott Brown. That election showed that you can’t go against the will of the people without paying the price. The democrats are headed for a fall with Obama and what he’s selling.

  9. noformstyle says:

The health premium is getting more and more ridiculous for the Seniors. Yahoo front page.

“San Rafael resident Mary McNamara Feller, a plaintiff in the suit, which was filed in Ventura County, said she had to do something after Anthem last month proposed raising rates on the policy covering her and her husband nearly 39 percent to $1,658 a month.”

  10. @WilliamHCarney

I agree. RAM it down our throats!!

Dems will be crying in November.

Good work Barry! You show ‘em LOL

  11. @WilliamHCarney

    Oh please ,
he was proved wrong saying that that premiums would not rise.

He was clearly wrong. (or lying)

    Just ONE example

  12. WilliamHCarney says:

Good job Barack Cool Obama II. Fuck these sorry ass Republicans. They’re plans for you to fail WILL NOT work anymore. Since they want to be assholes, and you invited them in last March, fuck them. Keep them out of everything. If they want anything, VETO their sorry asses. Since they produced a record of filibusting. Then produce one of VETO. But, that’s me. GOP Liars, your days are numbered.

  13. WilliamHCarney says:

No lies. Just the facts. I can’t wait for all of you who are doubting reform, that when it does prove to work, who will ne the first to admit they were wrong?

  14. Obama
    thoughtful hesitation? lol
I’d give a billion dollars to know how his brain squirms and churns and then “pauses” to spit out lies

  15. I think that it is also crucial for the government to find a way to bring down the costs of medical care. Health insurance premiums and the cost of medical care have both risen dramatically and in tandem. One reason for this is the excessive overuse of care, which is brought upon by a system that incentivizes this over-consumption. The culprit of this is the increasing reliance on third-party payments. Why should a third-party pick up the tab on ALL medical care??? Catastrophic is different..

  16. And by the way, you stated that you only have ONE masters degree. Stanford requires that you have one in Bio Engr and another in Mech Engr if you are entering the Bio Engr doctorate program.

Either way, this discussion is fruitless. But back to this bill. I have indeed given suggestions on how to reform the system. Repeal the McCarren Ferguson Act and allow customers to directly craft their own health plans, and allow them to purchase their insurance in an “actual” free market without borders

  17. Well you go ahead and tell the Mechanical Engineering Department that. They should amend their website in that case lol.

Let’s get real. Someone with a masters and a Ph.D wouldn’t respond with “Yeah, I’m fucking your mom right now.” They would also know how to spell, and would sound at least marginally intellectual. It just comes with the territory.

And by the way, they definitely don’t have a doctorate program dedicated directly to MEMS…Stop the charade, it isn’t working.

  18. @theredpillxxx

    Excellent point.
If your property is CONFISCATED from you and given to another, it is not charity and NOT from the heart. And, yes, you are right , how will YOU be able to give freely when the state takes most of what you have to the “poor” and favored government entities like unions, acorn, etc.

  19. noformstyle says:

There are many other universities that offer MEMS Ph.D programs, these schools don’t even have a medical school on campus or any affliated medical schools nearby. If studying MEMS require pursusing a MD degree , MEMS would be a dead program in no time.

  20. noformstyle says:

No. You can get a Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering at Cal or Standford without dual program or you can go the Biomedical Engineering route. It is basically the same depends what your emphasis is. It is strictly engineering disciplin. You just need some background in Bio, Chem, Fluid Mechanic, and microelectronics. MEMS are mostly based on microfluidic mechanic and electronic wafer manufaturing process. You don’t need to be in a Ph.D/MD program.

  21. Hmm that’s nice. But I think the Mechanical Engineering department claims that they only offer a Ph.D in Bioengineering, which requires both a MS in BioMech and Mech. Eng. The only other degree offered by the Mech Eng. program is a Ph.D in Philosophy.

And the only way you could have worked with microelectromechanical systems would have been if you enrolled for the dual- Ph.D/M.D. program. Shall I quote the text verbatim?

  22. noformstyle says:

I did my undergrad in Bioengineering at Cal, MS and PhD at Stanford. They are rival schools, I didn’t care. Stanford had a better program for MEMS and better industry connection in the Silicon Valley. Anyway, that was many years ago.

  23. HAHA….Not all 1st tier law schools have the endowment of schools like Stanford or the Ivy League’s. And it’s very difficult to get a scholarships, but you wouldn’t know because you never attended a graduate level program.

Also, my dad attended Pepperdine, and travels to Stanford often for conferences. I wasn’t aware that Stanford had a doctorate program for engineering, because of the established program at Berkeley. Hmm…

  24. noformstyle says:

Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering, emphasis in microfluidic devices. I have worked on MEMS and BioMEMS, but move on to catheters cause the industry is more mature.

  25. noformstyle says:

I know my alma mater, Stanford does give full scholarship in law school, but then again you just aren’t at that level. It shouldn’t be that hard to get a scholarship at 2nd tier law schools.
